In honor of Women’s History Month, I’d like to point out someone who I have found influential in my life. Aretha Franklin is an inspiring woman who has played a huge role in my life. I especially respect Franklin through her music because it was an outlet that she used to bring people together, something that I aspire to do through my music. One of the most notable times was a pivotal point in history – MLK Jr.’s assassination. Franklin’s music was turned to as a chant in protest and fight for freedom. Franklin became a symbol of the Civil Rights Movement and the realm of empowerment and freedom.

Not only is Franklin an unforgettable woman in advocacy, but she was legendary in the music industry for her impeccable talent. As an 18-time Grammy winner and the first woman to be included in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, it is clear that Franklin has gone down in history as one of the most influential women of all time as she was named Time magazine’s Woman of the Year in 1968.

Who is an influential woman that you found made a heavy impact on your life? I hope this month is a chance for us all to reflect on those who have fought to make a difference in our society and are people we can learn from to honor and continue their legacies.
